Singkaban Festival Through the Years

Singkaban Festival 2016 begins today until September 15 (Friday) with the theme: Lalawigan ay Ikarangal; Kasaysayan, Sining at Kultura ay Itanghal; Tungo sa Kaunlaran. I am not sure why and I am quite disturbed that it is my first time to come across this festival while I have been living here in Bulacan for the past 22 years! I have heard about Ati-Atihan Festival of Aklan, Sinulog Festival of Cebu, Panagbenga Festival of Baguio, Dinagyang Festival of Iloilo, Masskara Festival of Bacolod and Kadayawan Festival of Davao but not this Bulacan festival =(. Have I just been blind, deaf or too busy to notice this grand fiesta? Well, maybe it’s also because it’s a relatively younger festival, which only started in 2005, replacing the Linggo ng Bulacan celebration, which also just started in 1998. In any case, this festival needs more hype and promotion and that’s what I want to help with through this blog. It may not be much but I hope to encourage all of you to come to the festival and commemorate Bulacan’s art and culture. It is a truly colorful province with a very rich history that is central to that of the whole country’s. I do not claim to know much…I’m actually just beginning to learn but from what I have been reading, I am so amused and even more intrigued. We have much to learn from our heritage as a people and as a community to strengthen us as a nation moving forward. I am of course also especially drawn to the food, hehe, check out what I’ve discovered here:

Now, I am assuming that you too are like me and have not heard much about Singkaban Festival so I have gathered some photos and articles from past celebrations to entice you to come to one or a couple of the events or all, why not?! The roster of activites for this year’s festivities is also below. My husband and I are going to the Bulacan Food Fair Exposition, which is happening from September 12 to 14 and I am very excited =D. By the way, all Singkaban Festival promotional posters are from the Provincial Government of Bulacan.
